Where I Started
10th November 2015. I'd just got paid. Eighteen years old. The first thing I did was walk into The Gym Group on Jamaica Street in Glasgow and pay my first membership. A mate had looked at me and said I was quite skinny and it would probably help. That was enough for me. So I went.
I was 52kg.
For years after that I trained like it was the only thing that mattered. Filmed my lifts. Tracked everything. Showed up consistently. Did all the things you're supposed to do. And got almost nowhere. No coach. No real structure. Just effort and stubbornness going in the wrong direction for a long time.
Eleven years I've been at this now. The coaching side came later. A friend who was already a coach told me I was more than capable of doing it myself. I didn't believe him. Smiled, nodded, and carried on thinking it wasn't for me. Then one day I just stopped waiting until I felt ready.
Best decision I ever made.

My background is science. I wanted to be a doctor. Didn't get past the interview stage. At the time I was gutted. But it was a blessing in disguise. The drive to help people never went away. It just ended up here instead.
